Liquor shop? No it’s “Crazy Seven”: Craft beer paradise lived through the pandemic

Found in Translation

“Crazy Seven”, a so called Konbini (convenience store) is located in Yokohama Hammerhead building. With various kinds of alcohol sold here, especially craft beers, people started to call the shop with this name. The Konbini has survived the difficult time of COVID-19 lock down, being prosperous the time and also now.

Sells over 600+ kinds of craft beers both of domestic and imported. Choosing your drink from colorful cans is almost appreciating arts in a modern museum.

Hear a voice from somewhere, “This is crazy! Too many beers in here!” (or this is my voice inside.)

The shop is not just a hobby-made.

Yokohama Hammerhead, opened in October 2019, is in a great location of ocean faced port city and attracts a lot of tourists. But because of being popular from tourist, the lock down of COVID-19 had severely damaged its sales. Unlike shops near by a station or residential neighborhood, not many locals drop by for daily shopping like buying lunch Bento or bedtime snack.

Under such quiet season, alcohol became the key of the shop’s growth. Starting with major national brands, number of beers had gradually increased. Variety of beers lured hop lovers, and the more hop lovers come, the more taste was requested. During the lock down season, locals who ran to this shop for couch drinking were not few. Now the place is famous as a craft beer paradise.

Reflection on a beer refrigerator is an another beer shelf.

Belgium beer, a lot.

Glasses for beer? Sure they have that.

Asian beer, which one? Tiger, San Miguel, Bali Hai and Red Horse.

Snacks for beer, of course.

Juices also available. Found too many Dr. Pepper on this day.

Here is also good for finding souvenir because they sell craft beer from Yokohama.

“Hammerhead Ale”, a pale ale produced by Number Nine Brewery (Yokohama city, Naka-ward) placed in Yokohama Hammerhead.

REVO Brewing’s (Yokohama city, Naka-ward) IPA “ONE” with a hand designed on the can (on the right in the photo), Yokohama Beer (Yokohama city, Naka-ward) “Green Citrus Pilsner” with a recipe using Odawara city grown orange picked for fruit thinning (green can on the left in the photo).

“Yokohama Sunrise”, a hazy IPA brewed in collaboration of craft beer bar Southbound (Yokohama city, Naka-ward) and The Virginia Beer Company (Virginia, US).

From 2023, they also sell one-cup sized local Sake. “ICHI-GO-CAN”, one-cup size canned Sake series by Agnavi (Chigasaki city), they have Sakarimasu, Shonan, Kikuisami, Izumibashi, which are all from local Sake breweries in Kanagawa prefecture.

Being surrounded by the shelves of beer, I felt like I am in a liquor shop. The Konbini attracts local craft beer freaks and bibulous tourists.
